I think T.H.E. is a great way for people to see that there are a lot of other people out there who have similar qualities that they do, but can also have a totally a different life experience. We can all find something in another person that is similar, something that connects us.
What impassions you?
I have a lot of passion for art, studying art history, and anything that gets my hands and clothes dirty, so needless to say, I have a very limited unstained wardrobe. If I weren’t writing so many college papers, I would be spending more time in the studios working and getting that guitar in my hands. Ah, but I will probably miss school when it is all said and done.
What projects are you working on outside of T.H.E.?
I am currently working on my senior art exhibition that will be this next spring comprised of oil paintings and sculpture.
What are the top three things that instantly bring a smile to your face?
Here are a few things that make me smile: hugging my children, when I accomplish a goal and do it well, and the thought of no more homework!
What’s one of your favorite aspects about the queer community?
I love how sensitive the queer community is to social justice issues of all kinds, and many people’s need to be involved in making positive changes in the world.
What’s one thing you’d like to change within the queer community?
I would like to see more acceptance of every aspect of who makes up our community. People seem to be more accepting of the “L” and the “G” and less accepting of the many other ways people identify.
What passions and strengths are you most excited to bring to T.H.E. and what aspects of T.H.E. are you most excited to get involved with?
I look forward to bringing my creative side to the table, whether it be to write an article or brainstorming new ways to connect with people. I enjoy all the aspects of the project, but I still feel a little shy in sharing too much information with the web world. Being a latent lesbian/queer woman from small town Iowa, I am still trying to find my footing within the queer community. I am hoping that I will be of help to other women who have come out later in life.
