Meet T.H.E. Founding Members
Emelina Minero, Founder & Editor-in-Chief
Emelina Minero is the Founder and Editor-in-Chief of The Human Experience. Her passion for people, community building and the queer community led her to create The Human Experience. And a fun side note, along with Claudette and Sarah, Emelina is also a Randolph-Macon Woman’s College alumna.
Emelina loves people and she loves making them feel special and valued through acts of kindness, but more importantly, she loves helping them see their own value and beauty by listening to them, supporting their passions, amplifying their voices and by bringing them into strong and supportive communities.
She co-created the Love Warrior Community (LWC) alongside her therapist mom, Michelle Minero, who specializes in helping people recover from eating disorders. The LWC helps people to cultivate self-love, self-acceptance and body acceptance through creative expression: art, writing, videos, music and photography.
Emelina volunteers with Eating Disorder Recovery Support, Inc (EDRS), a Bay Area non-profit that her mom founded. She helps them with their social media and whatever else they may need: Facebook page, Twitter & blog. Emelina is also a contributing writer for Curve Magazine (the best-selling lesbian magazine in the U.S.). She’s also their former Social Media Manager and volunteer editor. Emelina has been published in other queer publications, LOTL (Australian magazine), Autostraddle and EDGE Gay Media Network, a LGBT news and entertainment portal for 21 major cities in the U.S.
Emelina also blogs regularly on her personal blog Emelina Minero Writes: Queer Musings & Creative Fancies and Self-Love Warrior, where she blogs about her self-love journey. Emelina is semi-addicted to Twitter. You can chat with her @CommKr8veWriter. The best way to get in touch with Emelina is via email at email@example.com.
Sarah Stout, Development Manager
Sarah, originally from Western Massachusetts, graduated from Randolph-Macon Woman’s College in 2010 with a degree in Economics and recently earned her MSW at Rutgers School of Social Work. Sarah is a lifelong feminist and book nerd who enjoys biking, hiking, cooking, loving on felines, spending time with family, and playing board games.
Claudette Jones, Publicity and Events Chair
Claudette has a B.A in Communication Studies from Randolph-Macon Woman’s College, with minors in Dance and Global Studies. She had the opportunity to study abroad in Scandinavia with Armstrong Atlantic State University which shaped her viewpoint of travel and international communication. Claudette is currently exploring the finance business, the value of credit and gaining experience in the art of saying “No.”
In her free time, she attempts cooking where success is gauged by whether the fire alarm goes off or not. Claudette enjoys reading fiction books, watching romantic comedies and doodling in her art journal. She lives on an island where a 5 minute drive takes you to a magical place where nature meets the modern world and tiny crabs scurry around your feet. After the death of a loved one, there is a need to be surrounded by something more beautiful and bigger than yourself.
Getting involved with this campaign is allowing her to recreate her mission statement, focus on her strengths and be a part of something bigger than herself. Discovering who you are is redefined in each chapter of life. Change is a constant and an idea that The Human Experience accepts and thrives upon. Perhaps the first step towards making an impact is accepting that you are different from yesterday; that the person you are right now has grown from the person you were yesterday. This experience and sharing of that experience is what T.H.E represents to Claudette and why she supports this publication.

Lauren Leiggi, Social Media Manager
Lauren Leiggi is the Co-Owner of L3GACI, an online space that asks how we can take what society has given us and then shape it into a better now and future for our loved ones. L3GACI was birthed from that message, along with how one can “Create, Inspire, [and] Evolve Society”. L3GACI inspires others by highlighting individuals who use art, culture and lifestyle to evolve society.
Lauren also created the blog, Pledge Your Voice, which encourages others to find their voice and to make a positive difference in the world. By encouraging media literacy, Pledge Your Voice strives to promote a healthier image of women in media.
Lauren mainly focuses on bringing awareness to media literacy, women equality and mentoring. She tries to focus her writing on enlightening females about gender inequality and continuing education. She also enjoys opening the eyes of others by playing devils advocate in challenging views and thinking outside of the box.
