You Are The Human Experience. Tell Your Story.

What is The Human Experience? It is the validity in your story and the story of 7,000,000,000 other people in this world. How do you put a label on being human? You don’t. You open your heart and listen.

This is the foundation of our queer publication, The Human Experience, and we want to hear your story.

Join us in spreading the diversity of the human experience with the world by sharing your story.

Here’s how you can participate:

  • Write a blog post or a Facebook Note (You can also email us your post for us to publish on The Human Experience or our blog).
  • Make the title of your post: I Am The Human Experience: [Your Name]. You can use your first and last name, your first name or Anonymous.
  • For your first sentence, start with, “I am …, but first and foremost, I am a human being.” Fill in the “…” with a series of labels that you use to describe your identity or labels that others impose on you. Here’s an example: I am a daughter, sister, aunt, niece, feminist, artist, journalist, writer, entrepreneur, community builder, lesbian, runner and friend, but first and foremost, I am a human being.
  • For the body of your post, show the world who you are. The labels you used in the first sentence, how do they accurately describe you and how do they fail to describe you? How do those labels inform different aspects of your identity, and what is your experience with those labels? A thousand people could identify with the labels lesbian, writer, dancer, therapist and bipolar disorder, and all of their experiences would be unique to them, and valid. The human experience is diverse. Our labels don’t define us. The different aspects of ourselves inform who we are, but we define who we are. We are more than our labels. We are human beings. What is your human experience?
  • Add the below quote and photo to the bottom of your post, and have your photo link to http://thehumanexperienceblog.com/you-are-the-human-experience-tell-your-story:

  2. [...] Ultimately, I want to be someone who helps people, and makes peoples’ lives better in some way. I want to acknowledge the human experiences of others and put in the work, sweat and tears to make those human experiences more joy-filled. That’s why I’m involved in T.H.E. I chose to share this much of my story, so that others may know that it is safe to do the same. This is actually my first time speaking publicly about my sexuality, and I sincerely hope that we can continue to vocalize our individual and shared human experiences in a way that betters us all.
